Ambroise-Isidore Fortin wurde am 11. Februar 1831 in Saint-Nicolas d'Aliermont geboren. Er war der Sohn von Louis Fortin und Marie-Anne-Véronique Cailly, Tochter von Jacques-Nicolas-Philippe Cailly. Ambroise-Isidore war ein Bruder von Louis-Maxumin Fortin und Alexandrine-Éléonore Fortin.
Ambroise-Isidore heiratete in St. Nicolas d'Aliermont am 5. Juni 1855 Uhrmacherin Armantine-Rosine Legrand, Tochter von Arsène-Hypolite Legrand.
