Junghans economic announcement 2012

In its anniversary year 2011 Uhrenfabrik Junghans GmbH & Co. KG once again recorded sales of over 20 million euros and a sales increase of almost 40% compared to the previous year. Close co-operation with the national retail partners - with whom Junghans had an enhanced presence as a result of the anniversary tour - and the company's own jubilee publications (magazine Watchtime - 150 Years of Junghans", anniversary book '150 Moments from 150 Years of Junghans’) resulted in a disproportionate growth in turnover in German specialised retail. These effects were also felt strongly internationally.

With around 60%, mechanical watches make up the largest share of overall sales. These include the Meister line with the two limited edition models Meister Chronometer (150 units) and Meister Chronoscope (1,500 units), as well as the limited max bill Gold Chronoscope (150 units), all of which were sold out within a few weeks. In addition to expertise in the field of the construction of mechanical movements, the limited edition Erhard Junghans 2 also underscores the bundled know how on site. The timepiece includes a hairspring from the Schramberg-based company Carl Haas.

The successful growth is also evident at the company premises, where investments were made in production and a company museum in 2011. Since the takeover by the Steim family the workforce has also expanded from 85 to just over 100 employees. Further recruitment is planned.

Outlook 2012

In 2012 Junghans is adhering to its strategy and continuing to expand the established sales drivers in the mechanical segment, such as Meister, as well as design classics such as max bill by junghans with the addition of new models. The 1970s-style "1972" series with a newly-developed Junghans multi-frequency radio-controlled solar movement highlights the expertise of Junghans in the field of radio-controlled technology and evokes the Junghans time measuring as official timekeeper at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. In 2012 Junghans also joins forces with Bogner GmbH & Co. KGaA to present the mechanical watch range Bogner by Junghans, for which Willy Bogner himself was the inspiration. The co-operation between the renowned companies serves to strengthen international presence. The new products of the first half of the year are presented at the INHORGENTA MUNICH from 10 to 13 February 2012. One week later the next step in the direction of internationalisation was made: the opening of the first Junghans Shop in the five-star Hotel Jin Jiang International in Taicang, near Shanghai. Prior to this the wholly-owned subsidiary Junghans Watch (Taicang) Trading Co., Ltd. was founded.
