Jean Louis Melly wurde geboren in Genf im Jahre 1737. Er war der Sohn von Barthélemy Melly und Lehrling von Jacob Brocard in 1749. Er wurde dann Meister Uhrmacher und Kirchendiener.
Jean Louis Melly verstarb im Jahre 1806.
