Jean François Henri Motel was promoted to second lieutenant of the National Guard on 7th January, 1832.
Instigated by Dr. Josef Girard, the Councillors of Grenschen decided on 7th January, 1851 to build up a clock- and watch-making industry.
The hallmark design for the German standard system of identification of the purity of precious metals were defined on 7th January, 1886. The basis of this system was the "Law regarding the purity of gold and silver wares" („Gesetz über den Feingehalt der Gold und Silberwaren“) from 16th July, 1884.
