Gruen ladies wristwatch
Gruen ladies wristwatch detail
Movement of the Gruen ladies wristwatch

Women's watch from the Gruen Watch Company.

This ladies watch with Gruen Precision print dates from the early 1930s. During this period, there was a collaboration between the brands Alpina and Gruen under the name Alpina Gruen Gilde. This watch was sold by us as a member of this organization to a family member and recently came back into our hands for repair.

The white gold watch is decorated with 14 small diamonds and 10 larger rectangular blue sapphires. The design in Art Nouveau style is characteristic of the ladies watches of that period. The numbers betray the "whiplash line " style of the decoration technique of numbers and letters that we also know as "jugendstil". We also see this art form in house construction, in the interior, and objects d'art. In addition, we also see this style in posters, book illustrations, but certainly also in jewelry. The white gold bracelet is not original from the factory, but purchased separately. Nevertheless, it still forms a suitable combination. The sides and the lid are decorated all around with engraved decoration, the crown is still original. The back of the case is provided with several gold hallmarks on the inside and the numbering 600569 A3. However, it does not yet have the double signature Alpina-Gruen that one often encounters in this period, but only Gruen.

The movement has the production number 619237 and was manufactured in Switzerland at the Gruen precision factory in Biel.
The caliber number of this watch is 107, a 5¼ x 8½ ligne movement (19.2 x 12.8 mm). The base of this movement is the same as the caliber 106, caliber 107 however has a separate lever wheel bridge with cover stones for the lever wheel. The movement is equipped with 17 jewels, two more than caliber 106. The balance wheel is a split bimetallic for temperature compensation and has weights and adjustment screws attached to it. The spiral spring is a breguet spiral, the watch was adjusted under various temperature conditions. At that time watches, especially those of this small size, were not yet equipped with a shock system such as Incabloc. Although it had already been done a hundred years earlier in pocket watches by Abraham-Louis Breguet. Not only the beautiful design of the case and dial, but also the special quality and finish of the movement makes this ladies' watch a special watch.
