Otto Grothe absolvierte von 1937 bis 1938 eine Ausbildung an der Deutschen Uhrmacherschule Glashütte. Er war in Arnswalde ansässig.

Grothe war Mitglied des Bundes ehemaliger Schüler der DUS.
