French Gilt-Bronze and White Marble Mantle Clock with Perpetual Calendar. c.1875

Maker: A. Brocot & Delettrez, Paris.
Case: The gilt-bronze frame has heavy beveled glasses to the sides and the two friction fit doors, white marble above with a concave molding and a molded white marble base.
Dial: Above is the white porcelain clock dial that has a sunken center with a Brocot escapement, gilt-bronze bezels, a large seconds dial with Arabic five-minute marks, a steel center mounted sweep seconds hand and a raised subsidiary hour-dial with Roman numerals for the hours and steel Breguet-style hands.

Below is the porcelain perpetual calendar dial with a month and equation of time chapter, a polychrome sunken center, a moon aperture framed by a night sky, subsidiary dials for the date and day and steel cut indicator hands including the center mounted month hand that carries a cast sun. The dials are framed by an elaborately engraved mask depicting scrolling foliage on a chased ground.
Movement: The broken arch eight-day time and strike movement has a Brocot suspension with the fast slow out the front, an Elicott-type grid-iron pendulum, rack and snail striking on a bell and is signed and numbered by the maker, 'A Brocot & Delettrez, Paris, 10147'. Activated by the clock movement above is the round perpetual calendar movement, stamped '10148', with the set knobs and indicator dials off the backplate.
