An early 19th Century English verge with Speed the Plough dial and unusual cock in silver pair cases. Full plate fusee movement with round pillars. Pierced and engraved round cock a solid triangular section on the table with representations of the sun, moon and stars, a crown in the pierced section above. Gilt regulator on top plate below the plain three arm steel balance. Convex white enamel dial, the centre painted with a polychrome enamel scene of a farmer ploughing a field with two horses and marked "Speed the Plough" beneath. Fully restored white chapter of Arabic numerals, fine gold hands. Matching silver pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow, maker's mark "WH" in a rectangle. Signed: Jn Hargrave Junr Sleaford.
