An early 19th Century English duplex by Barwise in a silver full hunter case. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with signed and numbered dust cover. Harrison’s maintaining power. Plain cock with diamond endstone, polished steel regulator, silver sector index on the plate. Plain three arm gilt balance with deep rim, spiral hairspring. Duplex escapement, large brass escape wheel, jewelled locking stone, pivots with endstones. Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand with gold arbor, gold gilt hands. Substantial plain silver full hunter case, maker’s mark "JD". An eminent firm of watchmakers. John Barwise was one of a panel ask to adjudicate in the dispute between Arnold and Earnshaw in 1805. They traded as Barwise and Sons for a short period, 1819 - 23, at 24 St Martins Lane. Casemaker James Dow, 15 St. James' Buildings.
