The wheel E of the minute indicator is caused to advance by a pawl e on the heart cam D, one tooth at every turn of the centre-wheel C, during the period of observation, being raised into gear with the said pawl by means of a bevelled upper surface on the hammer B, acting upon the bevelled underside of the wheel E, when the said hammer is withdrawn from its cam. The heart cam d of the minute indicator and its hammer b are also bevelled in such a manner that, when it is desired to set the hands at zero, the hammer, coming in contact with the cam, depresses it, together with the wheel E, which is thereby thrown out of gear again.
