John Moncas Liverpool, Goldene Taschenuhr Nr. 10892 ca. 1830.

A 19th Century English Massey type two lever with decorative gold dial in gold pair cases. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement, the dust cover pierced to reveal the cock and polished steel barrel setup ratchet and spring. Harrison’s maintaining power. Chased and engraved cock inscribed “Patent” on the foot, diamond endstone, blue steel Bosley regulator. Decoratively engraved barrel bridge. Plain three arm polished steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring. Large screwed in Liverpool window jewelling. Massey type two lever escapement. Lateral steel lever to stop the watch. Fine decorative gold dial with subsidiary seconds. Matted ground, three colour applied gold decoration to the centre and edge, applied polished gold Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Matching decorative 18 carat gold pair cases. Plain inner with chased and engraved gold oval pendant and bow. 18 carat gold outer case, chased and engraved bezels, a small faded name engraved in the centre. Both cases bearing 18 carat Chester hallmarks but no date letter and maker’s mark “F. R & O”. The inner case numbered corresponding to that on the movement. A good example of a pair cased Massey escapement watch incorporating large jewelling predominantly used by Liverpool makers of the period. John Moncas was working at 22-37 Castle Street, Liverpool.
