A mid 18th Century English verge in gold repousse pair cases. Full plate fire gilt movement with square baluster pillars. Pierced and engraved masked cock, pierced and engraved foot and plate for the silver regulator disc. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. White enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. 22 carat gold pair cases. Plain inner case with gold pendant and gilt bow. Gold outer case with a well executed chased and engraved repousse classical scene.


An early 19th Century English rack lever in silver pair cases with chain and deck box. Full plate gilt keywind fusee movement with dust cover. Harrison’s maintaining power. Gilt cock with chased and engraved table, the foot marked "Patent" in an oval, diamond endstone. Plain three arm steel balance with blue steel spiral hairspring, blue steel Bosley regulator. Rack lever escapement, unusually constructed without adjusting slides. Off white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds, Roman numerals, blue steel seconds hand with gold arbor, gold hands. Matching silver pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow, lateral steel stop lever, maker’s mark "NL". 32 cm silver curb link chain and silver "T" bar. Fitted in two tier mahogany deck box.

This watch appears to have remained unused for a number of years, the external surfaces of the case with a light grey patina. John Wood, Liverpool 1798 - 1828. A handwritten paper in the case gives the information:- "This watch was bought by R Ramsey from John Wood, Church St. Liverpool, Jany 1820 price ?12.12.0". A record of a baptism on 4 May1800 at St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire "Sarah Wood - Daughter of John Wood & Alice - Born: 4 Apr 1800 - Abode: Wapping - Occupation: Watch-maker". Casemaker Nathaniel Lee, 32 Leeds Street in 1818 and Ray Street, Liverpool until 1830.
