Historisch interessante Glashütter Präsenttaschenuhr - gefertigt in Qualität 1A - mit Originalschatulle und Originalzertifikat Geh.: 18Kt Gold, Goldcuvette mit Widmungsgravur: "Dem verdienstvollen Schriftleiter der Deutschen Uhrmacher-Zeitung Herrn Wilhelm Schultz zum fünfundzwanzigjährigen Jubiläum überreicht vom Verlag Carl Marfels A.G., 3. Juni 1914", auf der Rückseite eingelegtes, transluzid kobaltblaues Emailmonogramm "WS" (Wilhelm Schultz). Ziffbl.: Email. Werk: 3/4-Platinenwerk, Goldschrauben-Komp.-Unruh.

Wilhelm Schultz (1854-1921) apprenticed with watchmaker to the court in Stuttgart Friedrich Martin from 1868 to 1872. He later worked as a watchmaker in Frankfurt for two years and also in Biel in Switzerland for a year. In 1879 he took over a watchmaker’s shop in Munich, which he sold in autumn of 1888; in 1889 Reinhold Stäckel, owner and publisher of the "Deutsche Uhrmacher-Zeitung" (German watch- and clockmaker’s magazine) offered him an editorial position, which Schultz was very happy to accept. He was eventually appointed chief editor and from 1914 on he was the publisher of the magazine. Schultz was a superior craftsman with excellent theoretical knowledge in his field. His book "Der Uhrmacher am Werktisch" (on the repair of pocketwatches) was republished numerous times and translated into other languages. He was also credited with improving the quality of illustrations in the magazine dramatically, so that it eventually became one of the leading professional journals for horologists all over the world. A confidant of Friedrich Anton Kames, who advised billionaire watch and clock collector J. P. Morgan on his art collection, Schultz was able to visit many museums and collections of timepieces all over the world. He was deputy chairman of the German association of watch- and clockmakers since its foundation and after the departure of Carl Marfels in 1917, Schultz became president of the association. Carl Marfels acquired the "Deutsche Uhrmacherzeitung" in 1893 and started running the magazine on April 1, 1893 after having moved to Berlin, where the publishing house had its premises at Jägerstrasse 73. He published a number of horological magazines and founded the German association of watch- and clockmakers on June 1, 1897 with himself as chairman. Marfels was a friend of Strasser and from 1899 till 1917 he was a member of the board of directors of the German watchmaking school in Glashütte. He was also an honorary member of the Saxonia fraternity and a member of the chronometric society.
