A large late17th Century English verge with silver champleve calendar dial in silver pair cases. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with Egyptian pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, pierced and engraved foot. Plain steel balance, silver regulator disc. Signed silver champleve dial, rectangular aperture below the centre for the date, Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Matching silver pair cases, split bezel, circular shutter to the winding aperture, silver pendant and bow. Seven joint square hinge to the outer case, both cases with maker's mark "I.W" and number corresponding to that on the movement. Larger than most watches of the period this is in excellent overall condition. Andrew Dunlop, free of the clockmakers Company 1701 - 1732. Casemaker either John Willoughby or John Wightman, the mark appearing on many leading watchmakers cases including Tompion and Windmills, Signed:A Dunlop London.
