David Hare, London. Englische Mahagoni "Broken Arch Bracket Uhr", ca 1800, English Mahogany Broken Arch Bracket Clock.

Maker: David Hare, London. Case: The beautifully proportioned mahogany broken arch case has three pads on top and numerous brass mounts including corner beads, cast frets to the front door, a hinged handle and fish scale frets. The bottom board has a door that provides access to the pendulum’s fast/slow adjustment. Dial: The white porcelain dial has Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic five-minute marks and decorative brass hands. Movement: The eight-day time and strike double chain fusee movement has well-cut wheelwork, a strike/silent shut-off lever out the front and is signed in an engraved cartouche ‘David Hare, London’. The unusual verge escapement has the top pivot hole for the crown wheel set into a multi-piece framework with a dovetailed slide that allows the hole to be moved laterally. The pallet arbor has a traditional pivot at the front plate but sits on anti-friction rollers to the back and has a screwed beat adjustment. There are two knurled lock screws that are positioned to either side of the pendulum rod to lock it in place or are moved to a second set of holes while the clock is running. Notes: David Hare is listed as working in 1810. This is an exceptional clock with a well-proportioned case, a porcelain dial and a very well-made movement that incorporates several interesting technical features. Size: 14.5 to top of case without handle. 11 in. wide. 7.25 in. deep.
