An unusual deep case, the underpainted horn in excellent condition. An early 18th Century English rack striking clockwatch in gilt metal and underpainted horn pair cases. Deep full plate fire gilt movement with five turned baluster pillars. Fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates. Pierced and engraved winged cock with mask, the winding square at the edge of the table. Pierced and engraved plate for the silver regulator disc. Plain gilt balance. Rack hour striking on a bell, large engraved resting barrel for the strike train. Later white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, blue steel beetle and poker hands. Purpose made gilt and tortoiseshell pair cases. Plain gilt metal inner with steel strike / silent lever, original bell for the movement. Deep gilt outer case covered in underpainted horn. Rural scene framed in an oval border depicting a fisherman on the bank of a river, a church in the background.
