French Ormolu Chariot Clock with Diomedes and Athena. c.1820
MICHELEZ/RUE ST. HONORÉ/NO. 128/A PARIS The porcelain chapter ring dial with an ormolu center has black Roman numerals for the hours, steel Breguet-style hands and is signed 'MICHELEZ/RUE ST. HONORÉ/NO. 128/ A PARIS'. The eight-day time and strike movement has a silk-thread suspension with the fast/slow out the front and countwheel striking on a bell. This model was originally designed by Jean-Andre Reiche and is commonly referred to as 'The Chariot of Diomedes'.
Diomedes was an Achaean king, was considered the second best fighter to Achilles and was a favorite of Athena. Size: 18 inches
