Company History

In 1948, Carlo Sarzano founded Sarcar in Geneva.

Previously he had worked for many years for the most prestigious Swiss brands and he was a representative for these leading brands in Italy and Spain.

Carlo Sarzano, however, cherished other ambitions. Along with the precision and quality of his products, he wished to combine his own styling and decided to create his own brand. He started by searching for a factory able to realise his projects. He soon found one, a factory founded in 1919, "Manufacture des montres Niton", which he bought and transformed to suit his needs.

He then started to develop his "Collection" piece by piece and presented it to the clientele he had known for a long time. He simultaneously attacked the worldwide market and, thanks to the unique styling and quality, received a favourable response that led to rapid expansion.

Originally, he produced mostly gold-plated watches, but very soon afterwards added a solid gold line as well. In 1963, needing more space, Carlo Sarzano relocated his company to 41, route de Chêne, just outside the centre of town in a charming villa surrounded by century-old trees, where it has remained to this day. Carlo Sarzano passed away in 1974 and his wife Paulette Sarzano took over the management of the company. She was immediately faced with some difficult decisions. It was a period of mergers, consolidation and large-series production, all of which were totally contrary to the Sarcar philosophy.

Paulette Sarzano chose to concentrate on the prestigious creation of gold watches.

Carlo Sarzano used to say that one should "knowing how to be large enough to be strong, yet small enough to be free". This is still the motto of the current enterprise, thus ensuring flexibility and creativity. Models such as Solitaire, Magic Moon, Galaxy, and Moonlight are significant examples of this evolution

Over the years, the corporate philosophy has remained much the same, combining the latest technology with the know-how and dexterity of master-watchmakers. The goal is to give life to new and original concepts tailored to market demands, offering a blend of performance, innovation and aesthetic elegance. Thanks to a united team working to support each project, Sarcar continues to produce small, numbered series. These objects are dedicated to people looking for a watch to please themselves, a special and unique timepiece to reflect their own personality.
