The stormy atmosphere outside this wonderful and unusual “concert hall” once again underlined the harmonious interplay of the legendary conductor Valery Gergiev and one of the world’s finest orchestras – the Vienna Philharmonic.

In conjunction with the Dresden Music Festival, the Glashütte Original manufactory presented this unique concert on 26th May as part of this year’s festival.

This star of the conductor’s podium and the 120-strong orchestra created music of exceptional precision, energy and sensitivity, demonstrating once again their extraordinary excellence.

In a program specially tailored for Gergiev, the first symphony by Jean Sibelius formed the starting point of an exciting musical journey.

This journey with the Vienna Phil and Valery Gergiev in the Dresden Frauenkirche concluded with the brilliant Firebird Suite, perhaps the “most Russian” of the works of Sibelius’ student Igor Stravinsky.

With its impressionistic soundscapes and melodies reminiscent of fairy tales, it was an outstanding highlight of this year’s Dresden Music Festival.

After the performance, Glashütte Original invited its guests to a reception on the top floor of the QF Hotel, providing everybody with the opportunity to discuss and reflect on this remarkable event.

Thomas Meier (Managing Director of Glashütte Original) and Jan Vogler (Director of the Dresden Music Festival) were happy to be able to personally greet the maestro in the course of this reception.

Valery Gergiev took the time – in between his many concert appearances – to meet his audience and to provide some insights into his eventful artistic life.

The morning after this very successful evening in Saxony’s cultural centre, Valery Gergiev flew directly on to Amsterdam.

We can hope that he will once again include Dresden in his concert itinerary in the near future, delighting audiences with his passionate conducting style.

Just as classical melodies delight all music lovers, transcending generations and borders, so too the masterpieces of the art of Glashütte watchmaking have been delighting watch lovers from all over the world for more than 160 years.

Watchmakers and artists have always put great passion and devotion into the creation of the masterpieces of their craft.

And just as the interplay of the wheels, drives and springs in a mechanical timepiece ensures its movement and precision, so too the interplay of pitch, rhythm, and instrumentation creates an overall harmonious composition in music.
