Son of John Prior of Nessfield, also a clock-maker, was a leading London maker of watches for the Turkish and Islamic markets, in association with Edward Prior, who was perhaps his brother. One two occasions he received an award from the Society of Arts for his productions.

George Prior was the son of George Prior of Kilton and Joane Hare of Thurlbear; he was born on 2 March 1735. He apprenticed to his uncle Thomas Prior (oder Pryor) and in 1763 inherited the shop in Prescot Street, London.

George Prior was one of the most famous London watchmakers for the Ottoman market.

George Prior died on 23 April 1814; the watch business was picked up by his youngest son Edward.
