A world-class musical event in a world-famous location:
Glashütte Original presents Valery Gergiev and the Vienna Philharmonic in the Dresden Frauenkirche
On this evening, it was almost as if the music, in its full sonority, filled the whole of the Dresden Frauenkirche ...
The stormy atmosphere outside this wonderful and unusual “concert hall” once again underlined the harmonious interplay of the legendary conductor Valery Gergiev and one of the world’s finest orchestras – the Vienna Philharmonic.
In conjunction with the Dresden Music Festival, the Glashütte Original manufactory presented this unique concert on 26th May as part of this year’s festival.
This star of the conductor’s podium and the 120-strong orchestra created music of exceptional precision, energy and sensitivity, demonstrating once again their extraordinary excellence.
In a program specially tailored for Gergiev, the first symphony by Jean Sibelius formed the starting point of an exciting musical journey.
This journey with the Vienna Phil and Valery Gergiev in the Dresden Frauenkirche concluded with the brilliant Firebird Suite, perhaps the “most Russian” of the works of Sibelius’ student Igor Stravinsky.
With its impressionistic soundscapes and melodies reminiscent of fairy tales, it was an outstanding highlight of this year’s Dresden Music Festival.
After the performance, Glashütte Original invited its guests to a reception on the top floor of the QF Hotel, providing everybody with the opportunity to discuss and reflect on this remarkable event.
Thomas Meier (Managing Director of Glashütte Original) and Jan Vogler (Director of the Dresden Music Festival) were happy to be able to personally greet the maestro in the course of this reception.
Valery Gergiev took the time – in between his many concert appearances – to meet his audience and to provide some insights into his eventful artistic life.
The morning after this very successful evening in Saxony’s cultural centre, Valery Gergiev flew directly on to Amsterdam.
Es bleibt zu hoffen, dass er in naher Zukunft wieder einmal Dresden als Station in seinen Konzertplan einbindet und das Publikum mit seiner intensiven Art des Dirigierens begeistert.
So wie klassische Melodien die Musikfreunde über Generationen und Grenzen hinweg erfreuen, begeistern die Meisterstücke der Glashütter Uhrmacherkunst seit über 160 Jahren Uhrenliebhaber in aller Welt. Uhrmacher und Künstler haben schon immer mit Leidenschaft und Hingabe Kostbarkeiten ihres Handwerks erschaffen.
Wie das Zusammenspiel der Räder, Triebe und Federn in einem mechanischen Uhrwerk für dessen Gang und Präzision sorgen, so sorgt in der Musik das Zusammenspiel aus Tonhöhen und Rhythmus sowie die Wahl der Instrumente für eine harmonische Gesamtkomposition.
Mit seiner Präsentation unterstrich Mathias Elbe an diesem Abend eindrucksvoll, aus wie vielen filigranen und hochfein veredelten Teilen dieses Zusammenspiel in einem Glashütte Original Kaliber entsteht.
