Golden Balance award for the Senator Cosmopolite
World time masterpiece from Glashütte Original wins coveted prize

Honouring exceptional timepieces, newcomers and beloved classics alike, the “Golden Balance” is one of the most coveted awards in the watch industry. Glashütte Original's Senator Cosmopolite was awarded first prize in the premier category, “Watches over 25,000 Euros”, at a festive ceremony held last Thursday, February 25, 2016.
The “Golden Balance” was awarded for the 18th time this year. A total of 354 different models in five price categories were presented to readers of the magazines FOCUS, FOCUS Online and UHREN-MAGAZIN, who were asked to vote for their favourite watch in each category. Readers were evidently more than happy to do so: more than 21,000 ballots were cast in total from November to January.
With their choice of the Senator Cosmopolite for top honours this year, watch connoisseurs recognized a timepiece that combines the power of innovation with traditional craftsmanship and optimal functionality. The automatic 89-02 movement with its complex world time mechanism was developed by the Saxon manufactory in-house to meet the needs of the contemporary world traveller. Thanks to an elaborate interplay of exquisitely designed and integrated complications, the Senator Cosmopolite is able to display the time of day in two time zones at once, while taking Daylight Saving and Standard Time into account. The time zone ring presents 37 world time zones from which to choose, each represented by an official IATA location code.
Visually, the complex timepiece offers a classic, elegant design whose elaborately lacquered dial presents fine silver graining and galvanic black, laser-engraved numerals and railroad chapter ring. The manufactory movement's refined decorations, which include the elegant Glashütte stripe finish as well as blued screws, can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.
