A mid 19th Century English lever with Nicole's patent winding in an engine turned gold half hunter case.  Gilt three quarter plate keyless movement with going barrel, steel Nicole patent winding work above.  Engraved cock with polished steel regulator, compensation balance with blue steel spiral hairspring.  English table roller lever escapement.  Signed and numbered white enamel dial with subsidiary seconds offset at nine o'clock, Roman numerals, blue steel hands. Slim engine turned 18 carat half hunter case with blue enamel chapter ring, unusual form of clip securing the front cover.  Clip on back, maker's mark "AN" in a rectangle and number corresponding to that on the movement.  Signed E. J Dent.  - Watchmaker to the Queen  - Patent 15213,  Hallmarked London  1850, Diameter  49 mm.

Made by the firm of [[Nicole, Nielsen & Co.|Nicole Nielsen]] who manufactured for many of the watchmaking firms in the second half of the 19th Century. [[Nicole, Adolphe|Adolphe Nicole]] took out the patent for keyless winding in 1844.
