Englischer Uhr- und Chronometermacher

George Margetts wurde am 17. Juni 1748 in Woodstock, Oxfordshire geboren. Er war ein Sohn von John Margetts of Woodstock, einem wohlhabende Stellmacher. Diese verstarb aber 1762 und der vierzehnjärige George absolvierte eine Lehre bei ein Uhrmacher in Oxfordshire.

Er betrieb von 1785 bis 1804 seine Werkstatt in London, 21 King Street, Cheapside und fertigte dort Astronomische Uhren (The British Museum), Taschenchronometer und Marinechronometer (Guildhall Museum).

Margets war Mitglied der Clockmakers Company freeman 11. Oktober 1779, livery 1799 - 1808. Er verbesserte die durch Thomas Mudge erfunden Ankerhemmung.

George Margetts verstarb im Jahre 1808.
