Ergonomically optimised working conditions, streamlined processes and a balanced ecological footprint are just some of the advantages of Lange Uhren GmbH’s new manufactory extension. During a reception at the construction site, Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid and company founder Walter Lange laid the cornerstone for the new five-storey building.

The Senator Tourbillon – Edition Alfred Helwig appears to contradict the law of gravity in two ways at once: The untiring rotation of its Flying Tourbillon resists the pull of gravity, and the filigreed mounting reinforces the impression of pure weightlessness. With its new, light dial and individual numbering, the edition, limited to 25 pieces, offers moving insights into the lightness of being.

The A. Lange & Söhne construction site in Glashütte is abuzz with activity. The structural framework of the manufactory extension is gradually taking shape. Having completed the basement level and base plate, Dresden-based building contractor WOLFF & MÜLLER is already erecting the first walls for the entrance area on the ground level. This is where Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid and Walter Lange set the cornerstone with a time capsule. It contains a newspaper, the current [[Lange Uhren GmbH|A. “One of the cores of Saxony's history” is how Hartwig Fischer, Director of the Dresden State Art Collections, refers to the Mathematics and Physics Salon which reopened on 14th April 2013. Endowed with twice as much space as before, the eminent scientific history collection presents more than 400 exhibits, including clocks and watches, automata, telescopes, and globes. With its observatory and timekeeping service, it became the highest authority for all time-related matters in the late 18th century and is deemed the cradle of precision watchmaking in Dresden.

Not very many people take it upon themselves to found a company at an age when most people are retiring. But there was no hesitation when, in 1990, Walter Lange had the opportunity to revitalise the factory of his forefathers, whose operations were interrupted by the Cold War and the division of Germany into East and West. He was 66 years old at the time. The reunification of Germany opened a historical window of opportunity for the great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolph Lange, founder of the Saxony-based maker of fine watches. After a 40-year-long involuntary hiatus, Walter Lange managed to breathe new life into the legend of the historical brand and to successfully take on the powerful competition from Swiss watchmakers. The clever idea of bringing Germany’s most famous watch brand back to life was so powerful that it made its way to reality.

Pavonina – from the Latin for peacock, pavoninus, evokes luminous bursts of colour and glittering beauty. The new models in the Pavonina collection from German watchmaker Glashütte Original are filled with light and rare beauty, mirroring the faceted diversity of women today. The design spectrum ranges from simple elegance to extraordinary opulence. In homage to the female gender, the collection is diverse and lively, full of strength and femininity at once.

Mühle-Glashütte is now honouring the life and work of its founder with its new Robert Mühle special edition, which also breathes fresh life into a classic complication that is now a rare treasure: the date hand.
