Biography of the Week Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Deutscher Astronom Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel wurde am 22. Juli 1784 in Minden, Westfalen geboren. 1810 wurde er zum Professor für Astronomie in Königsberg und zum Direktor der noch zu errichtenden Sternwarte ernannt, die im September 1812 fertiggestellt wurde. Er verfasste zahlreiche Arbeiten und führte umfangreiche Beobachtungen durch.
